The usual problem with proxy servers is that they won't accept the
anonymous connections required during downloads.
However, my understanding is that they may allow the user to use
at least WU and perhaps even AU to show the list of updates
available for download. In that case you would be able to identify
the updates you need to install and download them (relatively easily)
manually. That is the circumvention which I was suggesting to the OP
for this thread.
