You know what? That's a positively evil question to ask during an
interview. I'm beginning to suspect that this proves the existence of some
sort of global IT conspiracy. It is most likely that the definition of the
acronym "CSIDL" is protected by fnords.

That sounds reasonable. I'm curious, too, as was the O.P., as to where in
the MDSN that the actual definition of the acronym is located. There's a
definition that says was a "CSIDL" is, but nowhere have I seen the actual
acronym spelled out in the MSDN docs.

No, but since PIDL means Pointer to an item IDentifier List

I guessing that CSIDL means Common Special IDentifier List
