Platform SDK Shell >> Briefcase implementation

by RGVuaXMgR2FsaWFuYQ » Mon, 31 Jan 2005 18:35:08 GMT

Hi,

I am wondering where are stored the origin path of files/dirs put in a
Briefcase.
My problem concerns using a briefcase between two different computers (that
is to say the data put in the brieface are not at the same place on the two
computers),
so if I knew where the path were stored, I could manage to change them when
the briefcase is used on one of the computers.

Thanks,

Hi Denis,
The information of origin path and some properties are stored in the
Briefcase's Database. you may see it by typing "dir /ah" in command line
window.

Thanks.

Is the Briefcase Database format public ? And if so, where could I find any
documentation ?

Best Regards,

No, Briefcase Database is not documented. I've tried search our internal
website, but have no luck to find it either.

I think you are in a scenario which you used 2 workstations and a laptop,
and you want sync a file in these 3 computers. I would suggest the
following:
1. Create a folder on the laptop called "data" (or something)
2. Create a briefcase on the desktop of each computer. (let's call them
work and home)
3. At work, when the laptop is on the network, drag the data folder from
the laptop to the briefcase on the desktop. This will create a sync
relationship between the two folders.
4. Do the same thing at home.
5. Whenever you want to sync the laptop and whatever machine you're on,
right-click the briefcase and choose Update All.
Now the files on the laptop can be sync'd against each desktop. Please let
me know if this could work for you.
