Windows 2000/2003: I am using a replacement shell I've written, but would
also like to use Windows Explorer as a file manager. Unfortunately, when I
launch Explorer from my shell it loads the Explorer shell, effectively hiding
my shell.
KB142905 states that if the following two conditions are met, then Explorer
will launch in shell mode:
1. No instances of Explorer.exe are running
2. It is the standard shell for the system
Is there a way to prevent Explorer from launching in shell mode even though
both of those conditions are true (as they are in my case because my shell is
launched via the UserInit value)? I've done a light Google of the issue, and
seen references to a DesktopProcess value, but results have been hit & miss.
It would also be best if the changes did not require a reboot to take effect.
Thanks.
