html >> how to stop framesets from displaying on other document pages??

:beer; I think I need one !!!

I'm a little new to DW8 and have been renovating a previously developed
site...most of which is working well except

My first page is a splash page, using 3 frames... two of are static sidebar
motif and header.... the third displays tables and
menu choices. When a menu choice is made... it links to another document
page. I have a navigation bar set up so that
you can go between the document pages and also back to the home page.
Here's the problem

When I navigate between the document pages all shows up as it should without
the frameset header or sidebar. However
when I start my navigation from the home page.... it displays the document
pages...including the sidebar and header. I
do not want the sidebar and header to be automatically displayed on each
document page just the actual content of the page.

I think what is happening is that ONLY the third frameset which originally
holds the menu selection tables is being updated.
and that my linkable document pages are being displayed in this frameset.
Is there a way to clear the screen so that the
document page can display by itself.....

Thanking you in advance

Bryan...

The reason for using or not using frames should be based on a) your site's
needs, and b) your willingness to accept the potential problems that frames
can create for you as developer and maintainer of the site and for your
visitors as casual users of the site.

I am down on frames because I believe that they create many more problems
than they solve.
Judging from the posts here, and the kinds of problems that are described,
the kind of person most likely to elect to use frames is also the kind of
person most likely ill-prepared fo solve the ensuing problems when they
arise. If you feel a) that you understand the problems and b) that you are
prepared to handle them when they occur, and c) that you have a need to use
frames, then by all means use them.

As far as I know, the most comprehensive discussions of frames and their
potential problems can be found on these two links -

2. Dreamweaver, stop touching my framesets!

Ok, here's what puzzles me. I've files with framesets. Sometimes they seem
incorrect to dreamweaver, so dreamweaver just 'corrects' it for me and disables
me to 'uncorrect' it. Excuse me, I am building a website and Dreamweaver is
just a stupid (as in: non-sentient) program, but the programmers believe it
should think for me?

Another nice thing working with frames. I have 2 files: index.php, with 2
frames, and frameset.php, with 2 frames also. frameset.php is in one of the
frames of index.php. However, no matter which file of both I wish to open in
Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver seems to believe I always wish to open frameset.php!!!
But when I do open index.php, it does show index.php as title in the tab, but
shows the content of the other file. Now, dreamweaver should not even be aware
of the fact these 2 files have anything to do with eachother, and if it does,
give me some options related to this 'intelligence', or don't even try to
detect such things.

I guess this should be a bug-report. I was actually hoping the latest version
would have fixed these stupidities, but apparently this is not the case. Where
should I go with this? Anybody knows?

4. HELP! - framesets suddenly stopped working

Hello,

I am a dreamweaver novice. I built a site using framesets, and had them
working so that when I clicked a button in a leftframeset, a linked swf file
would open in the mainframe. It had been working fine for months, but suddenly
stopped working. Now everytime I press the button it tries to open a new window
which is a pain and takes more time. I checked the link settings in the button
in the left frame that opens the swf, and its still corect (still says it is
targeting the main frameset) ... any ideas?

 thank you

6. Document panel's Title textbox stopped working

For years i have used Dreamweaver's Title textbox, located in the docking
Document bar/panel, to edit a page's <title> tag content directly from Design
View, without changing to Code View.

A few weeks ago, while using Dreamweaver MX 2004 (7.0.1), this Title textbox
simply stopped working. It is now blank. I can click inside it, and i get an
I-beam edit cursor, but entering text in this textbox has no effect on the
document's <title> tag. I can change to Code View, update the title tag in the
code, and the rest of the application updates appropriately, but the Title
textbox remains blank.

Can anyone help me restore this textbox's original behavior?

I used the exact same favicon image and HTML code for all of my webpages. It
works fine on some pages and does not work at all on others. Any ideas?
