IIS Server Security >> 401.1 On HTTP POST but not GET

by cw » Fri, 15 Aug 2008 04:44:03 GMT

Hi folks,
This one is probably simple but I don't know where the option is.
We have a server (2003 SBS).
This server has Trend WFB console installed and running through IIS.
None of the clients will talk to the server and the logfiles indicate all
connection attempts are being done by HTTP POST and are being denied with a
404.1
If I replicate the same request by HTTP GET, the request works fine but its
not like I can tell the Trend clients to use a GET instead of a POST.

So can someone point me in the direction of any settings that may affect
this?

Cheers!

404.1 and 401.1 are VERY different. Which is it.

I do not know of any configuration in IIS which returns either status
code for a POST but not GET. It sounds like custom 3rd party software
running on IIS6 which generates this behavior.

IIS Server Security >> 401.1 On HTTP POST but not GET

XXXX@XXXXX.COM :

Doh, I meant 401.1

Got round it anyway because you can install Trend to IIS or have it install
its own Apache instance. The latter works without a problem. Would be nice
to know what the problem was but the server is configured like most of the
others that we run Trend on. The only difference is that this server
previously had Symantec Endpoint on and had a tonne of problems because of
it..

I installed a server running Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.0, for testing.

Before I install Active Directory on this server, I configured a website on
IIS with Windows Integrated authentication. That was working properly, until
I install Active Directory.

Now, my website does not work with Windows Integrated Authentication, but it
works with Anonymous authentication.

This is the only domain controller for this domain. As I said before, this
server was installed just for testing.

Does anybody know why it's happening and what I need to do to resolve it?

7. Virtual Directory HTTP 401.1

Greetings,

I'm running IIS 5.0 on a Windows 2000 server. This server used to be a
Domain Controller, but was demoted this summer so that we could create a pure
Windows 2003 server directory. Now my virtual directories fail with a Http
401.1 error.

The virtual directories are on my main file server (Jupiter -- Windows 2000)
and have the correct drive mappings. I used the domain administrator account
to give access to the virtual directories directories. I also tried adding
IUSER_Saturn to the directory on Jupiter and adding it in the IIS Virtual
directory setting and that did not work either.

Lastly, I enabled log on locally access to Jupiter for the IUSER_Saturn
account throught the Local Security Settings Administrative Tool.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
