IIS Server Security >> IUSR_Machinename not being inherited by new child objects?

by Derek de Oliveira » Wed, 15 Oct 2003 13:26:32 GMT

Hello

I just noticed that new files I add to subdirectories contained within my
main home directory (which is set to apply all security settings to child
objects) will not inherit any security settings....where am I going wrong?
(I specifically need IUSR_Machinename to be inherited to everything that
gets added to my file structure to avoid errors.

I'm running IIS 6.0

Thanks!

Adjust this via explorer.

You should set the parent folder to allow inheritance of NTFS permissions,
and you should set each folder to allow inheritance of permissions from
higher level folders.

Additionally, you should copy files onto the server (copying means that the
file inherits permissions defined on the destination folder). If you move
the files, then the current permissions are copied, and file does not
inherit permissions on the remote machine.

Cheers
Ken

I didn't realize that a move didn't inherit the properties of the folder it
was being moved to.

Thanks Ken!

1. adsutil enum not listing all the child objects

Hi All,

I am trying to set the access permission on the virtual directory
using adsutil.... For some of the obejcts it gives error
"Error Trying To ENUM the Object (GetObject Failed)"

When I did a listing using adsutil enum /p I could not find the folder
in the list.

Can anyone suggest what am i doing wrong?

I have given full permission to IUSR and IWAM accounts on the folder,
but with no luck.....

3. IUSR_Machinename not created windows 2003 dc,

Hello, After the promotion to windows 2003 dc the users IUSR and
IWAM_machinename where removed, because a dc does not use locally based
users, ofcourse. But now the IUSR and IWAM users have been removed. I addes
these accounts manually but IIS is not happy with this. Is there a workaround
to add these users back to this server? The WSUS works with these accounts
and therefore I think it is necessay to get this working.

Thank you Paul
