Flight Simulation Games >> FS 2004 Question

by John Hewat » Tue, 19 Aug 2003 12:41:58 GMT

Hello,
I'm an Austrlian interested in the Century of Flight simulator that has
already come out in America. It's still a fair way away from release here
and I was wondering if someone could answer two questions for me:

1. Can other airplanes be downloaded for use in the program, and if so, can
they be planes used in previous versions of the game, or must they be 2004
specific?

2. Are there many Australian airports? I am specifically hopeful for
Moorabbin and Tooradin, both of which are in Victoria (My local airports).

Thanks very much for your help,

John.

Moorabbin is there but I didn't see Tooradin listed in any of the airports
in Victoria. Also there are 368 airports listed in Australia. As far as
using previous flight sim aircraft for 2004, Simviation.com says that all of
their fs2002 aircraft will work for fs2004. Hope you get this sim soon, its
worth it! Happy flying!

BTW.......Melbourne is gorgeous this time of year! If it looks anywhere as
nice as it does in fs2004 I certainly envy you!

No idea, this is my first MS sim and have only done the first tutorial flight.
I'm about to start fiddling with settings, my PC is getting a bit old for this :-)

Check around here and simflight.fs2004, there are many systems mentioned.
You will need to specify your CPU as well. A powerful gfx card is of no use
without a powerful CPU to push it.

FS 2004 Question

G'day all

I'm considering purchasing FS2004 and have used SimFlite software in the
past, in particular their WA Scenery. Their website www.simflite.com.au has
been down for a while. Does anyone know if they are still around because
they did such a good job before.

Cheers

1. Joystick or gamepad for FIFA 2004 and FS 2004

I am a complete Newbie to using gaming devices and am looking for a
Joystick or a Gamepad which could be used with diverse games like
Flight Simulation 2004 to FIFA 2004.

From various commnets, it appears as if the USB port on the Intel
Pentium IV Motherboard is more reliable than the Gameport on the
SoundBlaster Card. Another term frequently used is 'force feedback'
for the joystick.

Should I opt for a simple USB port Joystick without the Force Feedback
feature to start with? Or should I opt for a USB gamepad? If so, an
analogue or a digital?

Should I choose one of the branded products like Microsoft or Gravis or
Logitech or are unbranded products good and economic enough for

a beginner?

Where I can find instructions for assigning the buttons of the Gamepad to
appropriate actions in the Game?

I guess a manufacturer like Logitech assign certain generic actions to the
Button Commands. These must be used in a meaningful way for each individual
game. In FIFA 2004 played with the keyboard, there are 4 keys - W, S, D, E -
assigned by EA Sports to various actions like Kick, Sprint etc in Football.
If these and other actions are to be triggered by the Gamepad Buttons, how
to go about the assignment? Is it by trial and error? Does the manufacturer
of the Gamepad issue instructions for using the Buttons in each Game? Or is
EA Sports of FIFA provides any guidelines? Where can I access this
information?

5. FS 2004 and SLI?

I'm looking into getting a dual-videocard system, but I notice
that MSFS 2004 is not listed as supported by Nvidia on their
site. Since Nascar 2003 (supported) and FS 2004 are the
only reasons I even own a graphics card, I wonder if I would
see any worthwhile improvement in FS 2004.

Is anyone running FS 2004 on an SLI rig? If so, do you
see any improvement, or any degradation of video
quality? Thanks.
