Flight Simulation Games >> Falcon 4 on Win XP

Hi I have Win XP on a powerful system. I recently dug out my copy of Falcon
4 and decided to give it a try - but there is a really loud background
noise, no matter what part of the game I try to use. It's like a distorted
engine rumble - not the normal sounds I am well used to hearing, having
played the game frequently on an older system. Any ideas what's going on? Is
there any known issue between the game and XP or with certain soundcards?
Thanks

Have you patched to 108? And you should really use SP3 as well.

This is the 108US patch -

Not necessarily.
I have a patched F4 running on XP Pro and the only problem is poor
fonts in the HUD. It crashed with a BSOD when I tried to run SP3.

I have F4 SP3 on XP and all if fine. As far as the sound, if you are
running SP3, which I recommend, turn off EAX if your soundcard can do
EAX, and click in F4 Patch, "Use old sound algorithm" and unclick "3d
Sound."

And as far as having fuzzy fonts, turn off FSAA if you have it turned
on. F4's old graphic engine has never liked it. The only way I get
to use FSAA is when I turn on FSAA to 4XS using my GF4.

I had the fonts problem too, but it went away when I installed the latest
nvidia drivers (for nvidia card owner's only)

I installed on each 4in1 drivers (VIAHyperion4in1451v.exe)

When I copy a big file (about 100 Mbytes) from the DVD player to one of my
HDD here are the problems :
- With Windows 2000, my USB modem hang up (Alcatel speedtouch USB behind a
USB modem with its own power supply).
- With XP SP1, the computer crash and reboots !!!

I had these problems for 2 years, but now, I need to move from DVD big files
to HDD, and I would like to solve it.
The problem encoutered with XP is not a hardware problem, because it works
with windows 2000.
