Hello Folks,

I'm trying to make a .config for my A75-S226 toshiba notebook, to
compile a gentoo kernel 2.6. But the did not works, system halt while
booting.

I would like to now if I can enable some kind of log to see where this
crash, I try different configurations and each tried compilation stops
on different step on the screen. Then, I don't know what I can do,
cause it's my first linux instalation since long time ago.

Any help is welcome.

PS.: The Gentoo LiveCD works well and detect my hardware, including my
Kensington wireless mouse.

I don't know how to diagnose early crashes like that. (Where would
the diagnostics go ? Is /var/log/messages writable yet ?).

All I can suggest is to use their genkernel to get started.
Hopefully the resulting kernel will boot. You can then go back to
/usr/src/linux and run "make config" again to override their choices
when you don't like them.

In article <cliuaq$hih$ XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

The root fs is mounted late in the kernel's boot sequence, I believe. Maybe
it dumps a bunch of stuff to screen? If not enough text fits on screen at a
time to see the error message plus what caused it, change your bootloader
(or use /usr/sbin/vidmode) to change the kernel's video mode to "ask", then
when prompted pick the highest mode you can read.
