portable >> [Winmodem on a Dell Inspiron 5100 with Mdk9.2] pctel driver troubles

I would like to installa the pctel driver on my laptop.
The installation seems to work, but when I try to install
the kernel modules 'pctel' and 'ptserial' I found the
following warnings/errors:

--------------------------------------------
[root@idsia pctel-0.9.7-9]# insmod -f pctel
Using /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/misc/pctel.o
insmod: a module named pctel already exists

and

----------------------------------------------------------
[root@idsia pctel-0.9.7-9]# insmod -f ptserial
Using /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/misc/ptserial.o

Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license
and it has unresolved symbols. The module may be trying to
access
GPLONLY symbols but the problem is more likely to be a coding or
user error. Contact the module supplier for assistance, only
they
can help you.

Have you some different hint for me?

And it is the problem in the driver or in Mandrake?

Thanks a lot in advance.

2. Can't get battery status via APM on a Dell Inspiron 5100

I installed redhat 9 on it yesturday when I got it. I got the nic
working fine. However I'm having trouble with APM. apmd is running,
when I type the apm command I get:
AC on-line, no system battery

I know that a battery is in there, but I can't seem to find a howto or
a message board thread on how to get it working. apm --standby works.
However apm --suspend just seems to freeze up the system (won't do
anything after I hit the power button to unsuspend it).

I mainly just want to have a battery/power status icon or something in
gnome's status bar, or something like that. But if I can't get it to
recognize that it's a laptop (system with battery).

On second check it appears --standby only work in runlevel 1, not 5.

Is there any way to fix this? Should I try ACPI?
