portable >> Dell 7500 w/Fedora C2: how to switch display to external monitor?

by bbqdrew » Fri, 04 Feb 2005 10:45:00 GMT

Hello all,

I've recently installed Fedora C2 on a Dell 7500, and all went exactly
as expected (it's dual-boot with WindersXP). My challenge now is
figuring out how to switch the display from the laptop panel to the
external monitor port.

In WinXP, this is done by hitting the Fn-F7 keys, but that's not
working with C2. I went digging through the keyboard options, but
didn't find anything obvious.

Anyone have any ideas? Other than this hangup, which I'll admit could
be a show stopper, it's working perfectly.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What's the video chipset? If ATI, use atitvout.

3. Dell Inspiron 7500 cmos battery failing..?

Lately, I have noticed that the system clock on this Inspiron 7.5K was
running about a half hour slow. I adjusted it but I noticed that it was
quickly losing time again.

Would this suggest that the cmos battery is nearing the end of its life?

I looked into the Dell user guide and I did not find anything concerning
this battery (location.. how to replace it.. etc.). I did not find much
via google either - only one post where someone claims to have tried to
change this battery.. found that it was soldered to the main board..
tried to replace it all the same (!) and ended up with a laptop that was
no longer functional.. :-(

Does anyone here have any experience with this particular laptop and be
in a position to suggest a course of action?
