What client are you using, and how is it configured?

4. 550.5.71 Unable to Relay

I have a Linux Pop server in my network. I inherited this, so don't know the
history, but this is what I have.

1. In DNS host name is email.abc.com and Cname is servername.abc.com
2. I changed DNS to have host name be servername.abc.com and Cname to be
email.abc.com

When I made this change, I started getting 550.5.71 Unable to Relay messages
in my event viewer. Can't figure out what is causing this not to work. I
figured changing the DNS entries shouldn't have any affect whatsoever on mail
getting through.

I do have an alias file that has the following info:

username: XXXX@XXXXX.COM

This file was not changed.

I thought the problem was that I needed to add the servername to the
Recipient Policy (@servername.cq.com) but when I tried received: "The domain
address cannot be used for a recipient policy because it matches the name of
an Exchange Server. ID no: c1031340.

any help would be most appreciated.

6. #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay

For the past week, we've been getting these NDR's. It happens from multiple
domains, but randomly. Sending an email will fail one time, then work when
it is resent.

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance,
contact your system administrator.
<ourdomain.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for
 XXXX@XXXXX.COM >

Nothing has changed on our end. I'm not sure what is going on. Can anyone
help shed some light?

Thanks!

8. Do Not Have Permission/Unable to Relay

Hi, I'm running Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 (latest SPs for both).
Recently, my users and I have noticed a problem with replying to some emails.
We will get an NDR stating "You do not have permission to send to this
recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
<exchange.mydomainname.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.71. Unable to relay for
XXXX@XXXXX.COM >." This only happens on replies and only
sporadically. If the user resends, the message might go through or if the
user creates a new message, the message will go through. There is no rhyme or
reason as to which domains it happens to or what users. I don't have relaying
turned on. I only have one domain name setup on my Exchange server; no
connectors either. Also, all of my users use Outlook as Exchange clients.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
