Hi Ben,

Do you see anything being logged in your Application log in the Event
Viewer? If so what events? In some cases the best thing to do in this
situation if the server is not a Cluster is to use the Re-Install option on
the Exchange CD. This will not touch your databases, it will only replace
any files that are either missing or damaged. Once you run the reinstall it
is also a good idea to reinstall the last Exchange Service Packs that you
have loaded.

Hope this Helps,

1. Lost MTA partition. Can MTA be recreated?

Hello,
We are setting up a new Exchange 2003 environment that we will move all of
our current Exchange 2003 mailboxes to in the near future.

While working on the SAN this morning I deleted the array that contained the
partition that stored the MTA. The MTA path was N:\MTAData. I recreated the
N: partition but now I cannot get the MTA service to start and am not sure
how to recreate the MTA. There is not backup of this partition.

I tried running MTACheck but there is nothing to check. I was hoping that
this would have a rebuild option that might allow me to recreate the MTA.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

5. 553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed thru this MTA

"Remote host said: 553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed
 thru this MTA (#5.7.1)"

I have DomainA and DomainB MX record pointing at my front end mail relay
(running ORF spam software) sitting in front of 2003 exchange.

When sending yahoo emails to DOMAIN A they arrive.

When sending yahoo emails to DOMAIN B i get the message "Remote host said:
553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed
thru this MTA (#5.7.1)" on a retuned email to yahoo.

I have tried:
-examine the IP on blacklist (seems ok)
-restart the front end relay
-sending outgoing emails (via exchange 2003) (all ok).
-turn off ORF spam protection app (no difference)

Any idea why im getting the 553 error ?

Thanks for any help
