1. SMTP connector won't send to smarthost
I've been working on this issue for a long time now and still haven't cracked
it open. Basically, two Exchange 2003 servers in my site (one to be retired
when I figure this out) send and receive mail through a McAfee SMTP Webshield
smarthost installation on a server in my DMZ.
If I allow my virtual SMTP server service to send/receive mail to/from my
smarthost, everything's fine. If I create an SMTP connector, all of my mail
goes to the "Messages Queued for Deferred Delivery" folder. I have the
connector just sitting there now with a bogus address space and mail is
flowing through the virtual SMTP server. If I change the address space to
"*" then the mail immediately piles up in that folder - although it still
arrives inbound okay.
From the million or so internet articles I've read, the closest I can get is
to believe that my mail is experiencing a looping problem. What kills me is
that I'm SOOO close here, but just one step away from getting this right -
and that's where I've been for a long time. I can't fathom why everything
works until I put that wildcard in my address space - I've tweaked so many
things now that I've lost count, but in the end, the same problem lives on.
I've made sure that my FQDN is right and I do remove the smarthost from the
virtual servers, but still, no joy...
Drat...

3. Exchange 2k won't send SMTP messages from pop or Outlook, OWA
Hey,
Yes I have used the ehlo to connect up and send test email through telnet
from the server and that sends perfectly. It also sends perfectly if I use
the OWA client to send the email through the connector.

4. SMTP won't send
5. SMTP mail won't send
Hi all,
I have a newly installed 2000 server, with Exchange 2000 - all freshly
installed. I seem to be having a problem with sending SMTP mail
though, as it just hits the server and sits in the queue. I've tried
without an SMTP connector (letting the server use the default), I've
tried with a connector (tried with DNS and smart hosts). If I use a
smart host, then the messages all sit under <server> -> protocols ->
SMTP -> Default Virtual Server -> Queues -> "Messages with an
unreachable destination". If I don't use a smart host (and just use
DNS or the default connector) then the messages all sit under the SMTP
queue individually, and you can see them set as retrying/failed/etc.
Internet access from the server is fine, and DNS seems to be. I can
ping the smtp server by name, and it resolves - I can even telnet to
it and issue the commands manually to send an email.
If I use a smart host, then under tools -> monitoring and status ->
status, the connector shows up as unavailable with a red cross through
it. If I set the connector to use DNS, this goes away, and the
connector shows as available, but the messages still sit in the queue.
I've been looking for something like the SBS ICW just to make sure all
my IP settings are correct, but I'm assuming standalone 2000 Server
doesn't have one.
Incidentally, I'm used to doing SBS rather than standalone software,
so if there's something that needs done that doesn't need done in SBS,
I've probably not done it.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards,
DSt.
PS - I've re-booted and I've re-installed (over the top).
6. mail sets on the SMTP queue won't sent -I am in trouble please help
7. Outlook 2003 Sent Items won't use non-exchange mailbox sent items
Folks, can someone help me with this question? I think there is a
workaround for this, but I can't seem to find it.
The issue is that my company uses exchange for calendaring and
contacts, but an IMAP server for email. Exchange also supports email,
but the mailbox quotas are pretty small. This is because email is
outsourced to a telcomm carrier.
Anyways, I have an IMAP Sent Items folder, and want copies of my
outbound email to be copied there. But Outlook 2003 seems to only use
the Sent Items folder on the exchange server, and since I use a lot of
attachments, the mailbox gets filled up pretty fast, and I have to
manually move it to the IMAP Sent Items folder.
I went into outlook's advanaced options settings, but can't find a
place to set which mailbox account's Sent Items's folder I am supposed
to use. I can do this to select which Inbox folder comes up on start
up, so it goes right to the IMAP server like it's supposed to, but
Sent Items and Drafts doesn't seem to have the option.
This used to work under Outlook Express, but IT is trying to move
everyone to Outlook 2003, so they can stop supporting OE, and not have
people run Outlook for scheduling and contacts and OE for Mail. But
some of us are having problems with this conversion.
Does anyone here know how to make this work? If the "Sent Items"
folder is removed from the exchange server, will it then look at
another mailbox for Sent Items? The IT people seem to be willing to
make changes, but I think they are more Unix types...
Thanks,
Frob
