Routing and Remote Access Service >> VPN - Printing from VPN server on VPN client shared printer

by Robert » Wed, 01 Nov 2006 17:52:30 GMT

Hi you all.

I have this scenario:
- PC1 Windows XP Pro acting as VPN server. Workgroup name is WORKGROUP.
TCP/IP VPN address is 192.168.0.95
- PC2 Windows XP Pro acting as VPN client sharing one printer. Workgroup
name is WORKGROUP. TCP/IP VPN address is 192.168.0.96

Well:
I need to mount the client shared printer on the VPN server.

So, I start the VPN connection and it does begin the first issue:
- from the server, if you click on Browse/Show the Workgroup Computers, the
client is NOT shown.

and so, to overcome this, I must goto start menu and form the Run... field I
must enter \\192.168.0.96.

Doing like that, the prompt for user and password is show.

Loggin-in the client I finally see the shared directories and printers...
but something strange happen

From now on, to be sharp, I need some images support and so I published a
PDF file with the rest of the description.
Please follow it here http://corsari.altervista.org/download/vpn_issue.pdf

And thank you for any answer ... if any.

Regards

Robert

2. printing from vpn client to vpn

Ok, here is my situation:
I have a ts on my main site (site A), all my remote offices can connect to
it using terminal services or remote desktop connection, we are in same
subnet.
My problem is with a remote office (site B) which connecto to our ts thru
the internet and VPN connection. i have 2 computers and 1 printer in that
location, the computer with the printer (computer A) doesn't have any
problem when printing something after connected to vpn, but the other
computer (computer B) which uses computer A's printer for local printings,
can't print when either computer A is connected to vpn or Computer B is
connected to vpn.
My main site has a domain, and site B has a microsoft local network without
any domain, they use a username and password to authenticate users when
connecting to our application using the vpn connection, but not when logging
in on site B's computers.
I have no problems printing from a terminal services client (or remote
desktop client) to another client, but can't do this on site B, I guess
because the rest of the offices are inthe same Lan and site B is a different
lan.
Is something that I can do to allow computer B printing on Computer A's
printer when connected to vpn
thanks so much for any help

4. win2000 RRAS/VPN server and VPN client problem

hi,

I have configured windows 2000 server ( stand alone server
no AD ) as a RRAS/VPN server. VPN server uses PPTP.
This is the net setup

WAN(DSL)<---win2000server (vpn server- PPTP)

WAN(dialup)<--- win2000 pro (vpn client)

when I try to connect from a windows 2000 professional
machine to the VPN server,
I get this message
"your credentals have failed remote network authentication
enter a username and password with access to the remote
network domain"
and boxes to put username and password and logon domain.
there is no domain as i do not have AD and no domain I am
wondering why is it asking me for a domain name
(everything is stand alone).
When I put the username and password and click OK I get
another error
:error 691- access was denied because the username and/or
password was invalid on the domain.

username and password have been checked they all correct.

I would appreciate all the help.

6. Make a VPN client's internal network visible to the VPN server

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to have a VPN client's internal
network visible from the VPN server upon connection?

If so, how do you do this for both the client & server?

I'm using XP Pro as the client & Windows Server 2003 with RRAS.

Thanks
