After up-dating from Windows ME to Windows XP, the
H.P.820cse printer stop half way through a page and has to
be turned off for the paper to clear. Printer worked
perfectly in ME. I down loaded the latest print driver
from HP web site and no help here. Whats next ?

It's got a problem with corrupted drivers because you kept the printer
connected to the PC during the upgrade from WindowsME to XP.

The solution is to completely uninstall the printer and then reinstall,
using the instructions at:

http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article %20One.htm

The latest drivers available for this printer are included with XP, so after
the reboot of the PC, use the Add Printer Wizard to install the printer.

I have an HP 820cse parallel printer that has served me well many years.
Suddenly, after using XP-pro for 5 years, the printer prints jittery - adds
color to b/w documents, runs ink together, and generally makes everything
illegible.

All self tests work cleanly and perfectly - both the tests within windows
and the stand alone ones.

Plenty of ink.

Works fine on my old win98se machine.

I have tried:
1. Reinstalling drivers (delete and add, delete and detect, delete and
check windows update). Nothing.
2. Reinstalling drivers from original xp disk. nothing
3. Reinstalling drivers from a friend's xp disk. nothing.
4. Turned off spooling.
5. No irq conflicts, lpt port seems fine.
6. Changed lpt port setting in bios to "standard".
7. Tried three different cables.
8. Tried to install 98 drivers on an xp machine. (don't try this!)

Any more ideas? I have used this printer for years without issue and
bristle at the suggestion - well, just toss it and get another!

5. Problem with HP Deskjet 820cse printing

I am having trouble getting my 'old' HP DeskJet820 cse to print. After upgrading my PC to XP, it would not print at all. I figured out that if I go into Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and click the Ports (Com and LPT), click on ECP Printer Ports, Click the enable Legacy Plug adn Play detector OFF, click ok, go back into Ports (Com and LPT), click the enable Legacy Plug and Play detector ON, and then Click OK, the printer will work fine. I have to do this everytime I reboot. What a pain, there has to be a better way. The XP HP printer drivers are being used. Someone advised me to go back to the 95 drivers, they will download but not appear in the list to install. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, other than buying a new printer :-).
