print_fax >> setting up a internet printer

by sam » Thu, 18 Sep 2003 20:33:52 GMT

I have been playing around with 2000 server here at work
and set it up as a web print server using 2000 internet
services. I had to change the default port to 8010 as my
isp blocks port 80 here.

I was trying to hook to the printer at home on my xp
machine. installing the printer and manually typing in the
path
http://*ipaddress*:8010/printers/hplaserj/.printer
will bring up a password box and I click on "use this
username and passward" and type in my username and
passward that I had setup on the 2000 server. It comes
back with "you do not have rights...." I went as far as
adding the username and password to xp. didn't help.
I have a 2000 pro machine at home and that worked just
fine setting up the printer manually and using that
address to the printer.

I am looking for a source for info on this through the web
without any luck. I have a 2000 server book by microsoft
press (very thick) but they don't seem to touch on it much.

thank you
sam

2. Samba/LPD/CUPS/Windows printer set ups

I have a requirement where local Windows PCs must be able to print to their
local Windows printer when connected to a new OpenServer 6.0 server. I was
familiar with visionFS but now I need to use Samba. I researching this, I
discovered that most Samba to Windows printers configuration require CUPS. I
need to locate info on:

1) How to make CUPS the standard print spooler.

2) Set up and start Samba correctly.

3) Configure Windows printers which would be accessible from OpenServer 6.0
(Samba???) An example would be nice.
