print_fax >> print queue say offline

by Ed Belk » Sun, 14 Sep 2003 11:22:38 GMT

I have a Xerox DocuPrint P12 attached to my HP PC which I
bought new with XP installed on it. I had my Xerox
printer working fine with it for almost a year and
suddenly it stopped working. Now every time I send a file
to the printer it returns an error and it says "offline
printing". I have cleaned up my printer drivers and
reinstalled my printer many times but the problem
persists still. I have checked the system event file
under administrative tools and it says: "file failed to
print. Win32 error code returned by print processor: 63
(0x3f)".

Also, there is no XP driver for the Xerox DocuPrint P12
but I have been using the one provided by XP windows for
the P12.

Any suggestions ???

Thanks,
/Ed.

3. Can't print from any program although print queue says "Printed"

I sent a document to print from MS Word .The printer icon appears in the
system tray at bottom-right, but nothing happens with the printer. I
double-click on the icon & see the job in the print queue says printing ,
then printed, although the printer has not done anything. No error message.
Same thing when I tried to print a test page from Windows.

When I hold down the button on the printer to print a test page directly
from the printer, it prints, but not when I try to send a test page from
Windows. The printer cable, though is several years old, doesnt seeem to be
slack. I also unplugged it from the printer & then sent something to print to
see what would happen, An error showed up in the queue. But when I plugged it
back in, it said 'printing', then 'printed', but still nothing happens.

Tried restarting computer (windows xp prp sp2) , checking the print spooler
in services, restarted it , still nothing.

Can anyone help?

4. Can't print from any program although print queue says "Printed'

5. Queue says printed but no printing (from cmd prompt)

I am having problems printing from the command prompt with WindowsXP to a local
printer (Lexmark Z22) connected via a parallel port. I have tried to
reinstall the printer driver and I get the same results. I have tried:

  net use lpt1: \\computername\printersharename /persistent:yes
and
  net use lpt1 \\computername\printersharename (after a net use lpt1 /delete).

I tried the actual name of the printer instead of the sharename in place of
printersharename but received an error message (the two commands up there gave
no error, and typing `net use' showed the connection).

I tried to print both from the "edit" command prompt application and the slrn
newsreader. Slrn has had the same results the entire time, which was that the
print job showed up in the queue and the status of the job quickly changed from
`spooling' to `printed' (yet nothing printed). I tried printing from notepad
after this to see if the printer was waiting for an `end of page' character or
something. Notepad printed but there was no evidence of the other print job.
I tried printing several times; notepad always worked as expected, slrn never
printed. All jobs showed up in the queue.

The edit program (through command prompt) was a bit different in behavior. It
never gave me an error when I tried to print, but the only time I saw anything
in the print queue was after I had used the `net use' commands, as described
above. I had three different results from this approach, one of which was the
same as slrn gave me. The other was that 2 print jobs would show in the queue,
and the screen would keep flashing, as if one was being deleted at the same
time another was being added. The last result I had was having one print job
added after another, continuously; I stopped it after 300 or so jobs were in
there (all said printed for status).

Again, notepad worked at this time, but at certain times throughout all of this
the status of notepad print jobs would just say "sent to printer" instead of
"printed." The printer was set to spool and start printing immediately, but I
did try all of the above with the "send directly to printer" option selected as
well.

I've searched web pages, the Microsoft knowledge base, and the usenet and am
hoping that someone on here can point me in the right direction. If you can, I
appreciate any help you can provide me. Thanks.

While we're at it, does anyone have a good (free) alternative to using MsWord as
an editor for slrn? I've given up using Outlook Express, Agent, and XNews for
news programs for various reasons. Now my only problem with slrn is that I
need an editor with a spellchecker that will wrap text at 80 columns!
Feels like a never ending battle some days here.
