print_fax >> Lexmark Z52 XP Driver

by Chris » Thu, 18 Sep 2003 11:55:51 GMT

The standard XP driver does not have the feature of custom Lemark drive for
performing duplex printing which require minimal manual activity of flip the
stack of paper. So the solution seem to be to use the Lexmark driver.

Problem 1: the Lexmark driver is not digitally signed for XP but is reported
to be fine.

Problem 2: the Lexmark driver installs OK, but after deleting the standard
XP driver it keeps coming back and being installed as "new Hardware found".

I tried the guidelines for uninstall the Lexmark drivers (which blew away
FaxTalk Message Manager) but that did not help.

Has anyone been able to install the custom Lexmark drivers and eliminating
the standard XP drivers, or do you not have the problem.

ps. XP was installed clean, not an upgrade from previous OS.

Uninstall the printer using the instructions at Bruce Sanderson's article
at:
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

Pay particular attention to the special paragraph on Lexmark printers.

After rebooting the PC with the printer disconnected, download and install
the latest drivers from the Lexmark website at www.lexmark.com.

Do NOT connect the printer until the software tells you to do so.

1. Sharing Lexmark Z52 between Win 98 and Win XP

Howdy!

I have a LAN with two Win 98 systems and one Win XP system.

The LAN and file sharing (on TCP/IP) work just fine among all three
systems.

One of the Win 98 systems has a Lexmark Z52 (USB) installed and
working just fine.

I need to print to the Z52 from the Win XP system.

I have downloaded the latest Win 98 and Win XP drivers from Lexmark.

But before I start installing anything, I'd like to have a better idea
of what sequence of procedures and incantations I should perform.

Does anyone know how to do what to do in what order?

Thanx,
Ken

3. lexmark Z52 printer not recognized

I am trying to set up my Lexmark Z52 printer on my new
(windows XP) computer. I used it previously with a
computer running Windows 98.

When I plug in the USB port, Windows XP says it does not
recognize it. Trying to install it as a new printer
doesn't work. There is no option for a USB port. I
don't think I want to set the port as LPT, do I? When I
do use an LPT port Windows XP says it can't communicate
with the printer.

I downloaded a driver from Lexmark. Going to Device
Manager and trying to assign a driver to
this "unrecognized device" doesn't seem to work either.
When I point to the folder containing the driver I down
loaded from Lexmark, Windows XP comes back and says that
there is no data for this device in that folder.

Any advice?
Greg

5. Lexmark Z52 - bidirectional support / printer spooler

I recently upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP. Now
the black ink won't print - it prints as red and blue
fragmented. It is not a problem with the printer -on the
test pages the black ink prints OK. I have downloaded a
new driver from the Lexmark website.

- A couple things I noticed:
--- If I right click on the printer icon in the control
panel then click properties/cartridge maintenance , then
I can clean and align the cartridge.
HOWEVER, If I go to "search files and folders" for
lexmark then click on the lexmark file/control program an
error message pops up "ERROR: PRINTER NOT FOUND. A
VALID PRINTER CAN NOT BE FOUND ON THIS COMPUTER. MAKE
SURE THE PRINT SPOOLER IS RUNNING. IF PROBLEM REOCCURS,
UNISTALL AND REINSTALL THE PRINTER DRIVER." (I have
unistalled and reinstalled the driver.)
--If I go one step further (search/lexmark/control panel
then pick cartridge maintenace) another ERROR MESSAGE
pops us. Basically it says it can not
communicate with the printer and to make sure
BIDIRECTIONAL SUPPORT IS ENABLED. However, when I right
click on printer icon/select properties/click on Ports
tab - THE BIDIRECTIONAL SUPPORT TAB IS NOT
ENALBED. The selection is grayed out and I can not
select that box to enable bidirectional support!! (FYI
the port selected under the port tab is "Port USB0001
Virtual Printer Port for USB.)

*** How do I enable bidirectional support and how do I
check to see if the
print spooler is runnning?????

? Am I having a problem because of this being a plug and
play device?

7. Lexmark Z52 bidirectional communications

Hi all,

Lately I've been having difficulty using the Lexmark Z52 "custom XP" drivers
in my Windows XP box. Whenever I select the Cartridge property sheet to
perform cartridge maintenance (ink levels, cleaning, alignment) these
selections are grayed out. I have uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers
and the control program. I've power cycled the printer. I've removed and
reattached the USB cable. The native XP drivers seem to function fully, so
I'm ruling out any cable or hardware problems. This isn't a biggy, as I have
the native XP drivers working, but I'm just wondering if anybody else has
experienced this?

Thx,

Don Nash
