print_fax >> Lexmark Z53 printer

I have windows xp and everytime i try to print on this
computer the black ink does not show up and the colored
ink is hardly readable. I tried fixing it but nothing
seems to work, also there are 2 green buttons on the top
of printer the one on the right constantly blinks and
when I do put paper in the printer I have to press the
blinking light for it to respond and take the paper. Is
there a setting I can fix for this and also, there is ink
in the black cartridge, but it does not show up at all, I
used this cartridge before in the past and there was not
a problem. Also the colored cartridge just prints out
but very lightly. Any suggestions on how to fix this
would be appreciated. thanks Colleen

I would suggest that either the print cartridges need cleaning or that they
are empty. If the printer has been left for a while and not used, the ink
can dry up and clog.

Look in the manual for instructions on how to perform a cleaning cycle. If
this does not solve the problem, the cartridges may need to be replaced.

I have a similar printer and I have the same problem when I haven't used my
printer for awhile. All I do (provided the cartridge isn't empty) is get
some paper towel damp, take out the cartridge and clean the part of the
cartridge where the ink comes out. I wipe it about 3 or 4 times and then
make sure I blot it dry. Reinsert the cartridge and when asked if it's a
new or old cartridge I tell the machine old. Then print as usual and if the
cartridges still have ink in them, it prints wonderfully.

Give it a try, might work for you too.

I cannot get my Lexmark Z53 printer to work. I contacted the manufacturer

4. Heavy Panic With Lexmark 121980 Color Cartridge for z53

Don't ask me why I bought a Lexmark. I had a weak moment. Have had
nothing but trouble. Today I received a remanufactured color cartridge
from a company I've relied on for years and the color cartridge prints
nothing. But when I run a "clean nozzle" it shows it is full of color
ink. Could there be something wrong with some setting I have (I have it
on natural color), or is it just that the cartridge is faulty? Any ideas
on what to try? I'm a starving disabled student and have to do all my
classes on the net which require color graphics and panic is setting in.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. Please email me at

6. Lexmark Z53 inkjet horizontal banding

My Lexmark Z53 (a few years old) suddenly started printing text with missing
white bands, all the way across.

* It only does it under normal quality. (No bands under highest quality.)
* It's not a nozzle clog or parking cup mess (I cleaned those thoroughly and
have past experience with the former).
* It's not a loose carrier, because there's no banding with the color.

The only things I can come up with is
(a) something wrong with the driver (since I had installed/uninstalled some
other printer drivers recently), and
(b) a burned out resistor, as I recently refilled the black ink with a
refill kit...but it had gotten pretty low.

Any ideas? I'm not sure if diagnosis (b) is not indicated in light of the
fact that it prints fine under highest quality.

TIA,

-S
