print_fax >> Network Printing through ICF

My Network Printer does not work when the firewall (ICF)
is enabled. It is a USB printer attached to another
computer on my home network. It is shared and works fine
with the ICF off. What are the settings when adding the
printer as an allowed ICF SERVICE, namely EXTERNAL AND
INTERNAL PORT NUMBERS? I know the IP address.

Thanks

Use a third party firewall like ZoneLabs' ZoneAlarm (free for personal use).
The built in XP ICF is not designed for use on a LAN.

use).

Too true.

I prefer a router with a hardware firewall (this is standard in most home
routers).

The routers from Linksys (now owned by Cisco Systems), Netgear, D-Link and
Microsoft (Base Station series) all include built-in hardware firewalls.

My own MN-100 Wired Base Station lets me share the DeskJet940C with any
other PC on the LAN (and others that I add on an ad-hoc basis).

If I disable ICF, all works ok.
I thought ICF only blocked incoming ports?
Any ideas as to whats going on.
