o I am assuming your answer yes meant the service is correctly running.
When you say you get the message text "No data is available for this section.
Ensure that the Windows Management Instrumentation service is running." does
this only appear in 1 section and the other sections do appear or is this all
you see for the entire report?

lease try, Open Server Management -> Select "Monitoring and Reporting" node
-> select "Set Up Monitoring Reports and Alerts" -> in wizard Click Next ->
Select "Reinstall monitoring features" -> continue through the rest of the
wizard. Please let me know if you see anything different when you browse to
the page.

an you please explain a little more exactly what you are seeing. I thought
from your first post that you were not seeing anything on the page except the
no data message but from this response you say that you are seeing the same
thing as well as No Data for memory in use. Specifically which sections are
you not seeing data for? For each section it can take up to 24 hours for
data to start appearing after you run the Monitoring Configuration Wizard.

4. Server Performance Report: Service Not Available - Windows Small Business Server(SBS)

5. Server Performance Advisor - Invalid data set reports

I have a W2K3 SP1 file server with SPA v2 on it which has been running fine.
All the sudden SPA cannot process the reports it's generating and they are
listed under a heading of "Invalid Data Set Reports".

An Application Event log is generated, Event ID: 1006, Source: PLA, which
states that an Invalid character was found in the report.

Looking in the specificed reports directory there was a file,
incomplete_report.xml, which appears to be the culprit. I finally tracked
down the parts that were causing problems and there were multiple entries for
a file which had a hex character of 0x5 which is apparently illegal in xml
documents. Here is a section of th problem area:

<item level='1'>
  <data name='EventCompletionStatus' visible='false'>0</data>
  <data name='ErrorCode' visible='false'>0xC0000034</data>
  <data name='ClientAddr' >computername.domainname.com</data>
  <data name='FileName' >\dir1\filename1:SummaryInformation:$DATA</data>
  <data name='FileId' >0x0</data>
  <data name='FileObject' >0x0</data>
  <data name='requestRate' >0.04</data>
 </item>

This problem is between "filename1:" and "SummaryInformation:$Data". This
file is actually an Excel spreadsheet and it looks to be appearing in the
reports due to numerous lookups to it's alternate NTFS streams. The problem
is that this invalid hexadecimal value is being inserted into the
intermediate xml report and causing problems for SPA when trying to finish
the parsing to create the final report. It's not just this one file either,
several are listed like this in the incomplete_report.xml file.

Would anyone know of a fix or workaround for something like this, or
possibly know who to contact?
