2. Cannot start IPSEC Services
Hello - I'm getting a strange error when I attempt to start the IPSEC Services service. Here is the Event Viewer application entry: The IPSEC Services service terminated with the following error: An invalid argument was supplied. When I try to start it manually from services.msc - I get the following dialog message: Could not start the IPSEC Services service on Local Computer. Error 10022: An invalid argument was supplied. I have SP2 installed and am attempting to run Linksys QuickVPN. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA, RV

6. IPSEC Services Not Starting...
I've been successfully running a Small Business Server 2003 with 25 Clients. I recently updated the Trend Micro SMB product to their latest Worry Free solution. It ran fine for a few days, then MS submitted updates that required the server to restart. I came in the next morning to find the entire network down, everybody going crazy because they couldn't work, etc. What had happened was that the new version of Trend-Micro provides & installs some sort of a Firewall service, even if it's told not to.... The problem was that the IPSEC services would not start because a required port was being used by another program or service. I did not have time to mess around, un-installed trend micro, re-booted and all is up and running now. I left the mail scan portion of trend micro on the system, which works. I would like to re-install the trend micro product, but how would i prevent these types of issues from re-ocurring? I do not have a backup server, nor a test environment to mess around in, do not want to experiment on the production server. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

8. IPSec Service failing to start due to DNS update
Is this is serious a problem as I suspect? I have been configuring and testing a new server for a client and ran into this problem a couple of times. Basically, a recent DNS update to counter spoofing attacks can result in the DNS service occupying some ports that the IPSec service uses, which results in the IPSec service failing and all network access to the box being blocked, i.e. no remote access to fix it. The fix seems to be to remove the registry entry MaxUserPort. Should we all be rolling this out before the next reboot potentially causes a lot of preventable site visits? -- stephen
